About Us

In 2019, the Global Stranding Network (GSN) was founded at the World Marine Mammal Conference in Barcelona in response to the call for action from the Barcelona Declaration. The second goal of the declaration highlighted the need to “enhance and strengthen international collaboration to (1) ensure consistent, high-quality response to stranded marine mammals globally, and (2) support conservation efforts for species under threat of extinction”.

The GSN was created to enhance response to stranded marine mammals worldwide. The GSN helps with stranding response of all marine mammal species and provides a bottom-up approach to sharing resources and increasing capacity and collaboration.
